3rd Dec 2010 | Comments Off on Strengths vs values Strengths vs values To discover strengths, I generally use the VIA signature strengths take a look at; however itâs worth noting that in fact âVIAâ stands for values in motion. So are strengths the identical as values? In practice I find phrases like âstrengthsâ and âvaluesâ become a bit overwhelmed by the meanings we load on to them, so in all probability more for my own profit than anything, I wished to rehearse my understanding of the differences. I guess you can hardly wait⦠! Values are outlined by Harris (2009) as chosen life directions. I love the simplicity of this. Peterson (2007) described signature strengths as: These definitions recommend a variety of contrasts with values, not least that they're âpre-existingâ not âfreely chosenâ, and theyâre linked with emotions of excitement, ânotably at firstâ. In contrast (for me a minimum of), the actually liberating aspect of values is that as a result of they are a choice, they're far much less dependent on how we really feel in a given moment. In reality, valued residing may even really feel uncomfortable at first, in addition to important, nevertheless it leads to long-term feelings of which means in satisfaction over time.
